Im Auftrag des Grassi-Museums und des Fraunhofer-Instituts für System- und Innovationsforschung ISI in Leipzig untersucht das Projekt „Speculative Futures“ landwirtschaftliche Anbausysteme, Rohstoffe und Umweltfaktoren für eine biogene Wertschöpfung der Zukunft. Es erforscht, welche Zukünfte für die Landwirtschaft möglich sind, in denen klimaangepasste Nutzpflanzen kultiviert und Rohstoffe gewonnen werden, die sowohl Menschen als auch anderen Lebewesen zugutekommen. 

Das Projekt verfolgt einen multidisziplinären Ansatz und nutzt verschiedene Medien, um die Schlüsselrolle von Design bei der Zukunftsgestaltung zu verdeutlichen. Dabei werden „Was-wäre-wenn“-Fragen gestellt und spekulative Artefakte eingesetzt. Die Leipziger Designerin Johanna Seelemann zeigt die Ergebnisse des ko-kreativen Forschungsprojekts in drei Phasen – Erhebung, Prototyping und Ideenentwicklung. Workshops und ein Netzwerksymposium der Leipziger Fraunhofer-Forschenden mit Akteur*innen aus Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Design fördern den Austausch und die Entwicklung neuer Produktionsansätze.

Commissioned by the Grassi Museum and Fraunhofer ISI in Leipzig, ‘Speculative Futures’ is an ongoing investigation into agricultural cultivation systems, raw materials and the ecological context of an organically-based value creation of the future. It explores the possible futures for agricultures in which climate-adapted crops are cultivated and raw materials are sourced to benefit both humans and other species. 

The project takes a multidisciplinary approach and utilizes various media to highlight the key role of design in shaping our future environment. It employs “what-if” questions and speculative artifacts. Leipzig-based designer Johanna Seelemann shows the results of this co-creative research project, which will be presented in three phases - research, prototyping, and idea development. Workshops and a networking symposium of Leipzigs’ researchers with stakeholders from science, business, and design promote exchange and the development of new production approaches. 

Die Ergebnisse sind vom 21.11.2024 bis zum 24.08.2025 während der Sonderausstellung "ZUKÜNFTE - Material und Design von Morgen" im Grassi Museum Leipzig zu sehen.
